When do you most feel Mom-guilt?
I feel Mom guilt most when I overreact in anger or point a finger at a kid before I've heard the whole story and find out later that they hadn't done or said what I thought they had. I feel Mom guilt when I discipline in anger rather than in calmness. I feel Mom guilt when I know that my own laziness or lack of preparation contributed a great deal to the chaos of the moment.
When was the last time your child made you tear up with joy?
I teared up with joy when we were sitting around the campfire one evening and the kids just wanted to "talk" together. It is crazy that we are at this stage in life.
What have you worked hard to accomplish with your kids?
A few things I consistently focus on with my kids is that they will #1 Know and love Jesus with all of their hearts. #2 Look out for the underdog #3 Pray for orphans and kids in foster care #4 Stick together as a family
What do you wish you could do better?
Having a respectful tone of voice with my kids (esp. in the middle of conflict) and RESPOND to times of chaos and stress as opposed to REACTING.
What inspires you?
I am inspired by the stories of others. I am inspired by those who have faced hurt, struggle, and pain and yet through difficulty turn their eyes to Jesus, allow their pain to draw them closer to Him and to share their lives and His love with others. I love watching God create beauty from ashes.
What is the hardest part of raising children?
I think the hardest part of raising children is the emotional aspect of it. The times when you are overwhelmed and just simply don't know what to do. My heart breaks when my child is hurting and I can't just fix it.
What has been the best parenting advice you've been given?
Remember that our kids are a gift and not an interruption. Unfortunately, sometimes I treat them more like an inconvenience than a blessing!
What do you do that is just for yourself?
Ahh, a few things I do for me... I take naps! Also once a month, I meet a friend for coffee. Twice a month, my husband and I go on a date. I also try to workout approx. 3 times a week.
Here's the kicker though. Every day from approx 1-3:30, the house shuts down and we have quiet time. The kids settle into their rooms and I have time to do whatever I want to do. And let me tell you, usually that does not involved cleaning!! This daily routine has been HUGE for me and our family especially as we have grown.
