What's the most surprising thing about being a mom?
"How quickly and innately you adapt to motherhood. It isn't something that is learned or taught it just comes to you in the exact moment that you become a mom. You know your life is going to be changed forever. Everyone sends their well wishes and tries to prepare you for what's to come just-around-the corner, but nothing can prepare you for the instant rush of unconditional love you experience. One day you cannot imagine how your life will be different with your unborn child and then suddenly your on the other side as your life becomes so much richer and fuller than you could've ever imagined. Now I couldn't imagine life without her!"
What child gear could you not live without?
"I KNOW I might regret this one day, but I would have to say it's a tie between her paci and her Aden & Anais security blankets (her "lovey" as we like to call it). This is a small muslin blanket square with a silky edge. For bedtime, she finds so much comfort from both of them. In turn, this means well rested and refreshed parents. Sleep is a prized gift from God! These might be small simple items, but it really is the little things in life!"
What's your favorite time of day?
"I absolutely LOVE waking her up every morning. She is just so happy and cannot wait for me to peek in over the top of her crib and pick her up. She just laughs and squeals and thinks it is the funniest thing... like we were playing a game of hide and seek and I just found her. She just radiates sheer joy!"
What activities did you take for granted before having a child, that now feels rare and special?
"I try to live my life for the most part as we did before having a child. However, there is the obvious… going to bed significantly earlier and staying at home more. I use to take small things for granted, like running quickly in and out of stores. I remember going to the post office and I had to mail this huge awkward-sized box where I literally could not carry in both my baby and the box to the post office. (#momproblems)"
What do you do just for you?
"I like to dedicate time to working out and being as active but, It's difficult finding the balance of working full-time, being a mom and the wife of a business-owner. There simply is not enough time in a day! I still try to find time to do activities that I love, but before having a child I did it "mom-guilt" free and didn't feel as though I was sacrificing our time to do something occasionally for me."
How has being a mom changed your personal style?
"I wouldn't say that my style has necessarily changed however, you do have to be more practical. There are times where you have to choose comfort over cuteness. Sometimes I choose not to wear the high heels that I wouldn't have thought twice about wearing since I am now carrying a 20 pound baby plus a car seat. It just is not practical. I remember going to church for the first time after my daughter was born at 3 weeks old and I remember wanting to wear a dress. Ummm...yeah... that was out of the question as dare I mention the nursing factor?! This brings a whole new element of practicality to your style that always wins.
I like to be creative with style and what is more fun than doing that with your kid's wardrobe? They can pull anything and everything off as they always look cute no matter what!"
